ATLANTIC CITY AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.J. -- In recognition of exceptionally meritorious service above the normal call of duty from 2016-2017, the U.S. Air Force awarded the 177th Fighter Wing with the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award September 5, 2018.
"I am incredibly proud of the men and women of the 177th Fighter Wing," said Col. Bradford Everman, commander of the 177th Fighter Wing. "I continue to be impressed with the awesome dedication of our Airmen across the incredible breadth of combat and combat support missions the Wing executes every single day."
The wing submitted a package to the Air Force which included more than 85 bullet points across every mission set highlighting accomplishments regarding the wing's mission, and support to global deployments, exercises, and the local community.
"We deployed more than 500 Airmen to 14 countries. In the fight. All while maintaining our daily operational mission requirements here, which are significant," said Command Chief Master Sgt. James McCloskey.
Some of the specific accomplishments of 177FW Airmen highlighted in the package included: quick-response mobilization in support of Hurricane Harvey operations, providing security support to the President and Vice President of the United States, and volunteer work with the Toys for Tots program, which donated more than 50,800 toys to over 10,000 families.
"These are the men and women of this community accomplishing the extraordinary. What an honor it is to be a part of it," McCloskey said.
