CMSgt CHIEF MASTER SGT. WILLIAM C. PERKINS

CMSgt. William C. Perkins is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard. He represents the highest level of enlisted leadership and is the principal advisor to the Commander of the 177th Fighter Wing. CMSgt. Perkins is responsible for matters influencing professional development, health, morale, and welfare of more than 1,200 Airmen.

 

Chief Perkins was raised in Maple Shade, N.J. In 1988, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and attended basic training in 1989. He subsequently was assigned to the 17th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base (AFB), S.C., where he served as an Operations Resource Management Specialist. In April 1992, he Palace Fronted from active duty to the 119th Fighter Squadron. In 1996, prior to his position as Command Post Superintendent, he was assigned to the 177th Fighter Wing’s Command Post as a Command Post Controller.

 

While assigned to the 17th Tactical Fighter Squadron, in 1990, Chief Perkins was deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Desert Shield, and subsequently, Operation Desert Storm. On September 11, 2001, and again in 2006, he was mobilized to serve in Operation Noble Eagle. In 2012, he participated in Super Storm Sandy humanitarian efforts as a command and control node in recovery operations. During his tenure as Superintendent of the Command Post, Chief Perkins led his Command Post team to four Air Combat Command Superior Performer Team Awards in four consecutive inspections, earning a fifth Superior Performer Award as an Individual. In 2013 and 2016 respectively, he led his Command Post to earning two Air National Guard Unit Command Post of the Year Awards. Recently, he completed his Doctoral studies in Organizational Leadership at Stockton University and is a newly published author. In his civilian capacity, Chief Perkins is a retired Detective with a local police department, is currently an Adjunct Professor with two universities, and is obtaining his executive leadership coaching certification.
